One of the most talked about events in Beaufort is the annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival that is held downtown in October. The shrimp race is a popular fundraising event and 100% of net proceeds will benefit CAPA, Hope Haven of the Lowcountry, various local Beaufort children’s charities, and Rotary International projects.
This is how the race works. A donation of $10 per shrimp is made (the shrimp are not real, but plastic). Each shrimp is given a unique number. The day of the race, the shrimp are dropped in the Beaufort River, and the first 10 to cross the finish line will win a cash prize. A lucky number is determined before the race for the chance to win $1,000,000. If one of the first ten shrimp to cross the finish line has this number, the donator wins the money!
The prize money for the top ten is as follows:
1st Place…..$2,000.00
2nd Place.....$1,000.00
3rd Place…….$750.00
4th Place…….$500.00
5th Place…….$250.00
6th Place…….$100.00
7th Place…….$100.00
8th Place…….$100.00
9th Place…….$100.00
10th Place.…..$100.00
Below are a couple of the organizations that the donated money will go to.
